DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately record all financial transactions in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update general ledger accounts, journals, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure all entries are properly coded and supported by relevant documentation.
- Process supplier invoices, ensuring proper approvals and accuracy.
- Track accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding payments, and prepare aging reports.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure sufficient funds are available for operational needs.
- Record and reconcile petty cash transactions.
- Calculate and prepare tax returns including VAT, PAYE, SHIF, NSSF, and other statutory deductions.
- File statutory returns within required deadlines to avoid penalties.
- Keep updated with current tax laws and advise management on changes or compliance risks.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts.
- Analyze budget variances and provide insights to management.
- Generate financial reports such as profit & loss, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for review.
- Monitor and reconcile inventory records in collaboration with operations or warehouse teams.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register, including depreciation schedules.
- Provide accurate financial information to support strategic planning and decision-making.
- Participate in departmental meetings, offering financial insights and advice.
- Prepare ad hoc reports as requested by management.
- Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards and best practices.
- Perform any other accounting, finance, or administrative tasks as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a busy accounting environment
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and Kenyan tax laws
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High level of integrity and attention to detail
