DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and arrange buffet counters, warmers, serving utensils, and displays according to service standards and menu plans.
  • Ensure that all buffet items are presented attractively, labelled correctly, and organized in a logical and guest-friendly layout.
  • Check food temperatures and equipment functionality before service begins.
  • Monitor all buffet dishes during service to ensure they remain adequately stocked, visually appealing, and at the appropriate serving temperature.
  • Refill and replace food items as needed, coordinating with kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation of additional items.
  • Maintain proper rotation (FIFO – First In, First Out) to minimize food waste and ensure freshness.
  • Adhere to and enforce strict food safety and hygiene regulations in accordance with public health standards and company policies.
  • Clean and sanitize buffet surfaces, sneeze guards, utensils, and equipment regularly throughout service.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing (e.g., gloves, hairnets) and ensure personal hygiene is maintained at all times.
  • Greet guests courteously and assist them with any questions about the food offerings.
  • Offer basic guidance regarding dietary restrictions or dish ingredients where applicable.
  • Handle guest concerns or complaints professionally and escalate to supervisors when necessary.
  • Break down buffet setups, properly store or dispose of leftover food, and clean all service areas.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned, switched off, and stored correctly.
  • Assist with end-of-day inventory checks or reports as requested.
  • Collaborate with servers, kitchen staff, and supervisors to ensure buffet operations run smoothly and meet service timelines.
  • Participate in regular team briefings, hygiene training, and service evaluations.
  • Assist in other food service areas as assigned, including banquets or events.

 

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Certificate in Food and Beverage Service or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role, preferably in a busy restaurant or hotel environment.
  • Strong knowledge of buffet presentation techniques and food safety regulations.
  • Excellent personal hygiene and grooming standards.
  • Effective communication skills and a proactive, guest-focused attitude.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stand for extended periods.
