JOB SUMMARY

The IT Officer is expected to help build and maintain an efficient and high-performance working environment, enabling employees to enjoy all the benefits that today’s Information and Communication Technology can bring to a dynamic, culturally, and functionally diverse organization. The primary purpose of position is to strengthen IT operational effectiveness.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The IT Officer is responsible for providing technical ICT support to the Home in addition to minor electrical related issues
  • In charge of the CCTV installations, operations, repairs, upgrades, backups and reviews
  • Provide technical advisory services in relation to new or appropriate office technology options that are relevant to the offices in respect to ICT
  • Plan for technology upgrades, expansion and replacements by overseeing their systematic needs assessment, specification and budgeting
  • Ensure that computer network and other office technology access privileges, applications and data storage requirement and regular backups are configured and maintained
  • Provide ICT technical support to the staff to ensure respective office technology optimum performance
  • Schedule regular computer and other technology related services maintenance and license renewals
  • Update a harmonized data and other office technology disaster recovery plan and implement where appropriate
  • Define, deploy and maintain system security for shared services
  • Ensure installation, maintenance and renewal of protections services (Antivirus, firewalls) for the entire office setup
  • Monitor LAN bandwidth usage and advice management on improvement
  • Create and Maintain ICT configuration database for both hardware and software and ensure the file copy is regularly updated.
  • Organize for regular quarterly preventive service and maintenance schedules for ICT Hardware and ensure all service and maintenance reports are properly files and shared with management
  • Assist in all electrical areas in terms of repairs and maintenance
  • Running and maintaining the campus generator including accurate documentation of fuel consumption, running hours, repairs and services.
  • IT policy development and Monitoring.
  • Ensure continued alignment of IT process and resources with the organization’s changing business needs.
  • Ensure system safety is monitored and maintained.
  • Maintain IT budgets and manage costs.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of conference technology, support and determine the need for testing and evaluating new products and technologies; provide leadership on introducing technological changes; prepare various technical reports.
  • Assisting in performing daily systems monitoring, verify integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing systems and applications logs and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups to ensure availability and efficiency of the systems.
  • Provide user and technical support including staff training, security, confidentiality and integrity of information and ICT infrastructure.
  • Conduct electrical safety checks on computer equipment
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining IT documentation processes and procedures to ensure consistent and harmonious operations in the department.
  • Assisting in creating, change and delete user accounts as per requests to ensure up to date user accounts.
  • Assisting in providing specifications for ICT equipment and systems to ensure conformance to user needs and standards.
  • Logging customer/employee queries and responding within agreed time limits to call-outs.
  • Planning and undertaking scheduled maintenance of the machines and server.
  • Set up new user’s accounts and profiles and deal with password issues.
  • Coordinating with software and / or hardware vendors to ensure resolution of issues raised by users.
  • Conduct regular system audits.
  • Maintaining records of software and /or hardware licenses and records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule.
  • Ensure security of data, machines through access controls, backups and firewalls.
  • Troubleshoot system and network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging).

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Degree in an ICT related field
  • At least 3 years experience working in a similar capacity
  • Excellent inter-personal and general communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and Accounting software packages
