DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Prepare ingredients and cook meals according to standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
  • Ensure food is cooked and served in a timely manner while maintaining taste and quality.
  • Adjust cooking methods and ingredients to accommodate customer preferences and dietary needs.

Menu Support & Kitchen Planning

  • Support the Head Chef or Kitchen Supervisor in menu planning and daily kitchen operations.
  • Suggest new dishes or improve existing ones based on feedback and kitchen trends.
  • Assist in creating prep lists and coordinating daily meal preparation timelines.

Kitchen Hygiene & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized kitchen environment at all times.
  • Follow proper food handling procedures and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Regularly clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and food prep areas.

Inventory & Stock Management

  • Monitor stock levels of ingredients and notify supervisors of shortages in a timely manner.
  • Assist with receiving deliveries and ensuring proper storage of supplies.
  • Reduce food waste by following portion control guidelines and using ingredients efficiently.

 

 

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  • Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to coordinate orders and special requests.
  • Be proactive in offering support to colleagues during busy periods or shift changes.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Proven experience as a cook or junior chef in a professional kitchen
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, kitchen tools, and cooking techniques
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player with excellent communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen hygiene practices
  • Experience with continental or African dishes is a strong advantage.
