DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Case Management: Manage a portfolio of litigation cases from inception through to resolution. This includes liaising with clients, organizing and maintaining case files, and ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Court Representation: Represent clients in court, including hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings. This will involve presenting cases, cross-examining witnesses, and making legal submissions.
- Legal Research: Conduct in-depth legal research to support case strategies. This includes reviewing case law, statutes, regulations, and other legal resources to identify applicable legal principles.
- Document Drafting: Draft a variety of legal documents including pleadings, motions, affidavits, and legal opinions. Ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with relevant laws and court rules.
- Client Advising: Provide timely and clear legal advice to clients, keeping them informed of the progress of their cases, offering solutions to legal issues, and representing their best interests.
- Negotiation: Engage in negotiations on behalf of clients, aiming to settle disputes amicably where possible, while always keeping the client’s best interests in mind.
- Compliance and Updates: Keep up to date with changes in the law and court procedures, ensuring the firm’s practices and documents are fully compliant with relevant regulations and legislation.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the legal team to share knowledge, review case strategies, and ensure that client needs are met effectively and efficiently.
- Client Relations: Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with clients, providing exceptional service and support throughout the litigation process.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from an accredited law school.
- Postgraduate qualification in law (such as a diploma from the Kenya School of Law) is an advantage.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in litigation, including experience in civil and commercial litigation.
- Demonstrated experience in court proceedings and legal document preparation.
- Familiarity with the Kenyan legal system and the laws governing litigation in Kenya.
